Goodwill Employment Centers

Providing services to anyone in the community who needs assistance with job search, placement, or retention services. With four facilities in the county, we offer vocational assessments, workshops, job search laboratory, telephone, fax facilities, job postings, and Internet job search lab. Our professional staff can provide employers with prescreened job applicants, and facilities for individual, or group interviews, and presentations. We do not charge a fee, and provide both group and individualized services.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON GOODWILL EMPLOYMENT CENTERS(formerly GOODWILL WORKs):

In 1997, we discovered that many of the applicants for Goodwill's On-the-Job training program had some work experience, but could not pass the English competency test which is required for that program. We also knew that there were many employers in the border region who were hiring non-English speaking employees. The sheer number of applicants with a language barrier made it obvious there was a need for a service to help those people who were skilled, but had a language barrier. In April 1998, we opened the first Goodwill Employment Center in Chula Vista, primarily to serve the large Spanish-speaking population.

We are now serving ALMOST everyone who needs assistance in finding a job, not just those with a language barrier. The number of people accessing the Goodwill Employment Center in Chula Vista made it imperative that we expand services into other areas of the county. By July 1999, we had opened three more Goodwill Employment Centers.
