RECONNECT PARTNERSHIP: Goodwill & Dell
RECONNECT PARTNERSHIP
We've made it easy to help the environment—and others—in just a few easy steps:
WHAT DO YOU TAKE?
In general, we accept any brand of computer equipment in any condition from consumers and recycle it for free. We also accept just about anything that can be attached to a computer. In San Diego, Goodwill also accepts other electronic items and televisions, working or not.
WHERE DO I TAKE IT?
You may drop off residential items at any Goodwill donation center except Miramar Landfill. At that location, the City has contracted with a recycling vendor on site to accept all electronics. Please note that you will be asked to provide your name, address and a valid phone number, and will need to sign a statement that the items have been used within the State of California. This is a state requirement and your personal information is not used by Goodwill to send solicitations.
HELPING THE COMMUNITY AND THE ENVIRONMENT!
Your donated equipment has value—sometimes as a whole system, sometimes as parts, and sometimes as raw materials such as metals, plastics and glass. The proceeds from the sale of your donation help to support Goodwill's important purpose of "Getting People Jobs" . You'll get a receipt for tax purposes, plus you'll be helping to protect the environment and benefit your community at the same time!
ABOUT THE RECONNECT PARTNERSHIP
Reconnect is managed by Dell and Goodwill Industries. The first Reconnect program was started in Austin, Texas in 2004. Today Reconnect is available to consumers in many markets across the U.S. and is continuing to expand.
The equipment you donate to Reconnect is managed with highest standards for workplace and environmental safety. You can rest assured that the program is not exporting waste or sending any environmentally sensitive material to landfills. Reconnect has been recognized with a number of awards and accolades from public officials.
Goodwill is North America's leading nonprofit provider of education, training, and career services for people facing economic challenges, including people with disabilities, those who lack education or work experience and other job seekers. Every year independent, local Goodwill organizations across the U.S. provide education, job placement and training services to hundreds of thousands of individuals. Your donations of gently used items to Goodwill help support this important mission. Goodwills who are participating in the Reconnect program have donation centers that are an easy place for you to donate used computer equipment. Dell provides consumers free and convenient recycling options for used computer equipment. The drop-off convenience that Reconnect offers consumers is an important part of the recycling programs Dell offers.
WHY DID GOODWILL PARTNER WITH DELL?
Goodwill has a network of stores and donation centers and tremendous experience with accepting gently used goods, making Goodwill a natural convenient drop-off location for used computers. Dell has industry-leading experience in offering responsible consumer recycling programs that meet the highest standards of workplace and environmental safety. Working together, Goodwill and Dell can make free computer recycling available to more consumers and help raise consumer awareness about the importance of responsibly recycling used computers.
WILL YOU HANDLE MY COMPUTER RESPONSIBLY?
Reconnect is managed to both Goodwill and Dell's high standards for workplace and environmental safety. All collection and recycling practices are audited by a third-party to ensure these standards are met. These standards include an absolute prohibition on the export of waste and on the landfill of any environmentally-sensitive material.
CAN A BUSINESS PARTICIPATE IN THIS PROGRAM?
Reconnect is designed for residential consumers who wish to recycle used computers.
Goodwill Industries of San Diego County does accept computers from local businesses as a "collector" through the California Integrated Waste Management Board. If a business donates less than 20 systems, they may be taken to any Goodwill store. Please contact our transportation department for loads greater than 20 systems.
