Computer Donations & Recycling

NOTE: No electronic or electrical items are accepted at our donation center at the Miramar Landfill.

GENERAL INFORMATION

We accept computers and televisions, any brand, old or new, working or not at all of our donation centers and stores* (except Miramar landfill because the City of San Diego has contracted with the company that runs the recycling center at that facility). Goodwill is a state certified "Collector" of e-waste through the Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) and the Department of Toxic Substances (DTSC). We either sell, or recycle the units in an environmentally responsible way. Please note that we do not accept everything that is considered e-waste, only computers, laptops, cellphones, telephones, and computer parts & accessories and other electronic items. We DO NOT accept florescent lights, or batteries of any sort.

*One or two units of computers and televisions are accepted at our stores, or donation centers 7 days a week. If you are bringing your computer or television to a free standing donation center, please donate early in the day, so that we have room for it. We have no way to secure donations if there is no room in the box. If you are a business, please contact our main office to arrange to make the donation at 888-446-6394.

We have also launched a partnership in June 2006 with Dell computers which allows us to gain revenue from items we were previously unable to sell. see www.reconnectpartnership.com for more information.

Our employees have been trained on the proper handling of this type of equipment to protect our staff, customers and the environment.

Home or Office Pick Ups
We are happy to arrange a "special" home or office pick up if you plan to donate 20 or more systems at one time.

If you have LESS than 20 units, and you also plan to donate furniture and a large quantity of other items, we may be able to include your television or computer as part of our normal pick up system. Please note that we do not offer home pick up for less than 20 units unless you are also donating other items we can accept. To determine if you are eligible, please contact our Customer Service line at 888-446-6394 Monday- Friday between 8:00am and 4:30pm.

The requirements for any regular home pick up that includes any electronic item like a computer or television, is that unlike our normal pick up process, someone must be present to complete our tax receipt at the time of pick up from your home or business. If no one is present when we arrive, we will be unable to accept those items as a donation, and will only take clothing, household goods and the non-electronic items that are clearly marked for Goodwill, are outside at ground level, and can be lifted by two men and a dolly.

State Regulations require us to obtain your signature indicating that the computers, televisions, or any other electronic items were used in California, and if we are also required to get a Contact Name and /or business name, and a telephone number. Every electronics donor must provide this information in order for us to accept it.
