BOARD OF DIRECTORS
 |
| Good Turn Days in the 1950s |
Goodwill is very fortunate to have an active board of directors who have dedicated thousands of hours to establishing policies to ensure that we are able to achieve our purpose. Their guidance has allowed us to grow and prosper, serving thousands of San Diegans through our programs and services over the years.
EMPLOYEES
We use the money generated by the sale of donated goods to hire and train people with disabilities. In addition to physical or mental disabilities, the barriers our participants face can be as simple as a lack of previous work experience, limited or outdated work skills, housewives re-entering the job market, senior citizens, and people with limited English language skills. Almost one-quarter of the employees in our retail stores are Goodwill Supported Employment participants who are paid while learning "on the job".
GOODWILL DONORS - MAKING IT ALL HAPPEN
 |
| Donation Pick Up in the early days |
Donors play a key role in Goodwill Industries' ability to fulfill its purpose. Of our total income, 96% comes from retail sales and salvage recycling operations. The collection, processing, and sale of donated goods provides full and part time jobs for regular staff, and practical work experience and an opportunity to adjust to the demands of the workplace for our participants. 100% of public material donations remain in San Diego County, with 80% of the revenue generated by the resale of donated goods used for operating Goodwill programs and services in this region.
